Ponsonby Tongan Community
In 1984 the Ponsonby Tongan Community was formed under the Tongan Chaplaincy. Some members were also in the Ponsonby Sacred Heart Parish. In 1990 the Tongan Community began singing at the Sacred Heart Parish every 4th Sunday and this continues today. At present we have 13 families in the Tongan Community.
Objectives:
• To involve the youth more into our community and spiritual work
• To continue the good work we have been doing for the church.
• To encourage healthy living in our community.
Community Leaders:
Every 3 years we vote for the positions on the committee.

Community Church Responsibility and Activities
-Singing every 4th Sunday of the Month
We sing with the combined choir and also help the youth choir
-Choir Practice once a week
-Clean the church every 4th Saturday of the month
-Sunday school after Mass
-Run a health programme that includes exercise classes
-Every 4th Sunday we have a community meeting and have lunch together after the meeting.
-Every 1st Sunday of the month we have combined Tongan Mass with the Mt Albert Tongan Community and every 2nd month it is held in our Parish.
-Kautaha Malia/Third Order of Mary: has prayer group every Tuesday at people’s homes or in the community hall.
-We have our meetings, Sunday school, and other activities in the community hall.
